Gradual - Advanced Nutritional Supplement For Patient With Diabetes
Nutritional support utilizes specially formulated GradualTM, an advanced nutritional supplement for patient with Diabetes. GradualTM may be taken orally or delivered via tubes into the small intestine (enteral feeding). GradualTM provides energy-rich, protein-rich, fibre-based or nutritionally complete formulations, allowing treatment to be tailored to patients precise needs. GradualTM is specifically designed as per ADA 2014 guidelines as Diabetes-specific formulas containing FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) an alternative sugar to glucose as well as MUFA (MonoUnsaturated Fatty Acids), fibres, and antioxidants.
Carbohydrates (59.4gm): Simple carbohydrates break down quickly during digestion, release glucose rapidly. Complex carbohydrates break down slowly, release glucose more gradually in the bloodstream, and have low GI.
Proteins (20.3 gm): It has been observed that there is an increased breakdown of proteins in diabetes. Hence, adequate amounts of proteins should be consumed. It helps the body to grow new tissue, therefore helping to build muscle and repair damage to the body.
Fats, Monounsaturated Fat (MUFA 9 gm) Omega-3 Fatty Acids (633 gm) : Fats provide energy and essential fatty acids and are a source of fat-soluble vitamins3. Omega-3 is a type of essential fatty acid which reduces cholesterol in the blood and hence can lower the risk of heart disease in diabetes patients.
Dietary fiber (Nutriose®) (13 gm)/ FOS (4 gm): Gradual TM is high in Nutriose Fibre which is instantly dispersible fiber which does not cause any gastrointestinal discomfort. It lowers insulin resistance, and improves determinants of metabolic syndrome in obese patients. It also helps to increase feeling of fullness after a meal, regulates blood glucose levels, aids weight loss, reduces cholesterol levels, and lowers risk of diabetes in pre-diabetics.
Vitamins and minerals: Vitamins and minerals are important for maintaining steady blood glucose levels. Chromium helps control glucose levels and reduces cholesterol and can play an important role in the diet of a person with diabetes.7,8 Chromium picolinate being most bioavailable form of chromium enhances the biological action of Insulin. Chromium also helps insulin to binds with its receptors that line cell membranes and allow glucose to enter the cell to be converted into energy.
Selenium: Supplementation with Selenium reduces the risk of disease complication by 25%
Vitamin B 12 : Vitamin B12 supplementation has proved its symptomatic improvement with severe diabetic neuropathy. One meta-analysis showed that if used either alone or in combination with vitamin B complex, there is a significant improvement in the somatic symptoms like pain and paraesthesias.
